Laptop hard drives are 1.2 terabytes in size
Fujitsu's orthogonal (PRM) magnetic recording method allows to increase the data density on disk without narrowing the gap between bits.
Fujitsu said the new technology performs a read / write process on each individual alumina cell to isolate the bits, enabling them to produce 2.5-inch 2-disk drives with 1.2 TB storage capacity by 2010. .
The nano-alumina cell structure is formed by PRM technique using nano printing (to create discrete distances between bits), oxidation of the anode and electrolytic cobalt precipitation.
" Fujitsu products promise to be highly valued when it comes to the market because of its compactness and large capacity. In addition, small hard drives often consume less power ," said John Rydning, fertilizer specialist. IDC analysis, commented.
