Laser reveals a series of 'haunted houses' of the Incas, invisible to the naked eye
The archaeological team led by Dr Dominika Sieczkowska from the Adean Research Center of the University of Warsaw (Poland) used LiDAR, an advanced reconnaissance technology that uses lasers to detect hidden structures.
Chachabamba ritual site of the Incas
LiDAR "pierced" the canopy of Central American old-growth forest and a series of centuries-old scrub and soil to identify 12 small structures erected on circular and rectangular plans on the outskirts of the Chachabamba complex , a famous cluster of temples and Inca ritual architecture located in the Machu Picchu National Park area.
Called "small" because it is compared with the majestic temples, pyramids . of the Incas nearby, but actually it is still 12 relatively spacious houses, said to be inhabited by who were responsible for the operation and care of the Chachabamba ceremonial site during the heyday of the Incas.
Objects discovered at these ghost buildings show that the people living there are mainly women.
The survey also revealed a previously unknown part of a canal system to carry water from the nearby Urubamba River to Chachabamba, according to Heritage Daily. This spectacular discovery once again shows the "modernity" of the Inca civilization, with its level of science and technology surpassing that of other civilizations of the same time, despite being shrouded in the mysterious veil of rituals. special beliefs and practices.
