Launched Blu-ray DVD with 200GB capacity

Digital storage device maker TDK announced that it has successfully produced Blu-ray DVD with storage capacity of up to 200GB.

The new 200GB Blu-ray DVD has twice the capacity of TDK's existing DVD of the same type - the current product has a capacity of 100GB - or equivalent to the ability to store about 18 hours of high-definition video .

However, similar to the 100GB disc, TDK's new Blu-ray DVD is still just a single-layer disc.

Bruce Youmans, TDK's vice president for product research and development, said: 'The ambitious development process for Blu-ray technology is now proven in practice.'

Blu-ray standard is the next generation optical disc standard developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association. Currently the optical disc standard has been supported by many names such as Apple, Dell, Hitachi, Hewlett-Packard, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, Pioneer Electronics, Philips, Samsung, Sharp Electronics, Sony, and Thomson.

This is a standard optical disc designed to allow recording, recording and playback of high-definition (HD) images and storing a huge amount of data. Blu-ray DVD has 5 times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can store about 25GB of data on one layer and 50GB for 2-layer discs.

Blu-ray standard is currently supported by more than 170 manufacturers of consumer electronics, personal computers, games, music . worldwide.

TDK expects to introduce new optical disc into commercial production within the next few months.
