"Listening to music helps to calm and control anxiety, pain of patients, and reduce blood pressure," said researcher Pietro A. Modesti at the University of Florence, Italy.
A total of 48 people aged 45 to 70 are taking medication to treat high blood pressure involved in the study. Among them, 28 people listened to 30 minutes of classical, Celtic and raga music every day while practicing gentle breathing exercises. The remaining 20 people have no changes in their daily activities.
Blood pressure readings showed that systolic index decreased significantly in people who listened to music. Meanwhile, the remaining group of blood pressure was almost unchanged.
"In a situation where the number of people with high blood pressure is increasing, it is interesting to know a simple, interesting method such as listening to music to reduce the situation for patients," Modesti said.
