When we feel frustrated, many of us will listen to sad music, in accordance with the mood. But contrary to the belief that sad music makes us feel more sad or sad than it is now, a new study shows that sad music can enhance our spirits.
This research has just been published in the journal PLOS ONE, the journal of the Public Library of Science library , which was done by Liila Taruffi and Stefan Koelsch of the Free University of Berlin, Germany. The two researchers surveyed 722 people from all over the world and came to the conclusion that listening to sad music has a positive effect in creating a sense of happiness.
"The kind of sad music plays a role in creating happiness by bringing comfort as well as adjusting negative moods and emotions," the study concluded.
According to Taruffi and Koelsch, sad music will give people a complex but positive emotion . Most respondents said when listening to sad music they feel miss, yearning for affection for a specific time or place. Respondents also said they felt positive, peaceful and gentle feelings when listening to sad music. Whenever they hear sad music, at least three kinds of emotions appear in their minds.
This study also discusses music therapies that can help improve feelings of fun. Unstable emotions on a specific person can be improved by listening to sad music. These people tend to use sad music to regulate their emotions, the effect of sad music on each particular person is not the same.
