Litium helps increase life expectancy

According to a study published by Friedrich Schiller Jena University, scientists, the body absorbs litium at the micro-level to significantly increase life expectancy.

The research team of Prof. Michael Rostow and colleagues from Oita and Hiroshima universities in Japan conducted independent studies that both found that even low concentrations in litium helped to increase. significant life expectancy in humans and the type of nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.

Litium is one of many micronutrients that the body absorbs mainly through vegetables and drinking water. According to Ristow, ' the scientific community still doesn't know much about the physiological function of this element '. A previous study by American scientists found that litium helped prolong the life of C.elegans. But Professor Ristow also notes that if the dose is beyond the scope, it could be toxic.

Scientists investigated the amount of litium in tap water to understand the effect of litium on low concentrations for human lifespan.

The research team from the US and Japan combined the analysis of the relationship between mortality rates in 18 Japanese cities and litium content in tap water in their respective regions. Ristow said: ' We found that in cities with higher levels of water, there was significantly lower mortality .'

In the second study, they determined the appropriate concentration of litium to prolong the life of the C.elegans.

Although litium's mechanism of action to life has not yet been elucidated, scientists believe that life expectancy in humans and C.elegans is higher due to the effect of litium.

They also speculated that the use of litium in low doses would be a potential supplementary diet in the future. Professor Ristow explained: ' Previous research has shown that absorption of litium in drinking water improves mental health and reduces mortality .'

The results of this study have partly demonstrated the benefits of litium at trace levels, but scientists say they will also study further to make it possible to use litium as a nutritional supplement.
