Making artificial rain to stimulate python

The rains and artificial flooding, along with the addition of food, were enough to convince three South American pythons at the New England Water Park to breed, for the first time in captivity.

One of the two pythons is confirmed to have brought the only male python here. This potentially powerful python - up to 9 meters long and more than 225 kg - often lives in deep forest swamps and tropical South American rivers.

Biologists at the Amazon exhibit at the water park have created similar conditions in their homeland to encourage pythons to reproduce, including artificial rain water spraying, and raise the water level. they are to mimic flooding.

The plan was successful."We saw them mating, " the park spokesman said.

It is hoped that the remaining python will also produce a litter, although it is too early to be sure.
