UAE built artificial mountains to increase rainwater

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is implementing the first phase of the artificial mountain development project in the context that the country seeks to increase rainfall to the highest level.

According to scientist Roelof Bruintjes, head of research at the UAE's National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), experts from the Federation of Atmospheric Research (UCAR) are studying model details. artificial mountain.

In the early stages, scientists are developing an artificial mountain that, thanks to it, will be pushed up high and create clouds that can produce additional precipitation. Then, in theory, an arid landscape could become green over time.

Artificial rain is the process of changing weather in certain areas, in order to increase the rainfall formed from the clouds.

A permanent unit at the meteorological division of the National Meteorological and Seismic Center (NCMS) undertakes the creation of artificial rain. From here, artificial rain is formed throughout the UAE. Recently, UCAR revealed, about $ 558,000 was invested to create artificial rainfall throughout the UAE last year, according to Abudhabi2.

Last February, UCAR received a $ 400,000 grant to propose a "detailed simulation study" to assess the impact of artificial mountain construction on weather conditions.

"Creating a mountain is not a simple thing. We are actively completing the comparative phase, including testing all heights, widths and locations (of mountains), while paying attention to local weather. " Mr. Bruintjes said.

Experts have not specified a specific location to build artificial mountains, but they are experimenting on various areas throughout the UAE.

"We are assessing the impact of each type of mountain, its height and the necessary slope to the weather," said scientist Bruintjes. He confirmed that UCAR experts will report on the first phase of the study of artificial mountains this summer.

According to Mr. Bruintjes, if the project is to build artificial mountains to increase the amount of rainwater to be approved, the second phase will be handed over to an engineering company and they will decide whether it can be realized or not.

Mountains affect the climate with regional and global weather conditions. By preventing air and mountain circulation, it will greatly affect wind, rainfall and heat, according to the 2011 report of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
