Detecting many mummies of ancient Egyptian animals is a fake

Check out more than 800 mummies with shapes like cats and crocodiles, the team found that these artifacts are mostly fake. Of these, only one third contains complete animal carcasses, one third of other mummies contain several animal parts. The rest are only stuffed with mud, sticks, reeds and eggshells.

" The stuff on this artifact seems less important and the more interesting is the appearance, like whether the mummy is like the god it was raised or not, " Lidija McKinght, Egyptologist at the University of Manchester, commented.

Experts believe that even if animals are raised for the purpose of mummification, there is a high probability that the demand is not sufficient. This is why they add materials like mud and reeds to the specimen.

According to the Telegraph, although many previous comments suggest that mummies do not have complete skeletons, scientists are still quite surprised to discover the secret.

Unlike human mummies, animal mummies are used as sacrificial offerings to the gods . According to scientists, the mummification of animals in Egypt dates from 800 BC to 400 AD. Along with embalming, producing and selling wooden caskets for mummies also creates an important source of revenue.
