Many people were surprised when the color of 2025 was just announced.
The color of 2025 has been chosen by the Pantone Institute and it will likely have a significant impact on the world of fashion and art in the near future.
As we approach the end of the year, we not only see year-end summary lists but also start to see trend predictions and forecasts.
As usual every year, the Pantone Color Institute recently announced Mocha Mousse or Pantone 17-1230 as the 'Color of the Year 2025'. Mocha Mousse is an attractive brown color that evokes images of chocolate, cocoa, and coffee.
This soft brown shade was chosen as the color of 2025.
This soft brown shade is inspired by images of nature, so it fits in with the current trend towards a preference for natural and organic things, and is associated with sustainability and a connection to the environment. As the name suggests, it also refers to indulgent sweet treats like chocolate, coffee and cocoa, reflecting a desire for comfort and pleasure.

We can expect mocha to impact color schemes and designs in 2025 in ways like balancing out vibrant tones, adding a natural touch to spaces, and in fashion, cementing its place as a neutral, alongside black, white, and deep navy.
'For Pantone's Color of the Year 2025, we turned to a soft brown tone that has an inherent richness and a warmth that is visually pleasing, evoking a desire for comfort and simple pleasures that we can give and share with others,' said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.
' A trend-setting fashion color with a rich neutrality, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expands our perception of brown, transforming it from humble and casual to luxurious and aspirational. Inspired by the warmth of the senses, it shines in soft textiles, soft leathers and suedes, soft velvets, cashmere, angora and shaggy knits, and enveloping and embracing furs,' she added.
This soft hue soothes our senses, inspiring and inviting. 'With its light appearance, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse works well with sheer and flowing chiffons, silk textures, satins and jersey fabrics, bringing a sense of flow and elegance ,' adds Laurie.
According to Laurie, Mocha Mousse also conveys a subtle sophistication in hair and beauty. "A soft brown with a warm glow that enhances the inherent radiance of every skin tone against a variety of undertones, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse represents the desire for simple, authentic beauty and a minimalist look that is synonymous with simplicity ," she notes. "Characterized by rustic sophistication, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse promotes a pure and organic approach to luxury."
Pantone describes this color as one that "can easily blend with any color, giving each outfit a touch of warmth and subtle elegance."
The Color of the Year is chosen by Pantone every December, the first being Sky Blue in 1999. The Color of the Year for 2024 is 13-1023 Peach Fuzz.
