Mr. Pham Van Tac - Director of Bac Lieu Provincial Museum said, the excavation of the underground surrounding the oldest tower in the Mekong Delta was carried out by the museum and the Center for Archaeological Research after a month of work. positive work.

Digging up to 2m of soil, the researchers found some valuable antiques such as a compacted brick floor forming a wide surface about 25m 2 . According to archaeologists, residents at that time may have used this tile floor as a yard to carry out the work of religious beliefs of the resident community at that time.

A footprint was also discovered during this excavation at Vinh Hung ancient tower. This may be a brick pillar of a building structure made of light materials such as wooden columns. This architecture is a waiting house with a quite large space for the community of the time to wait for religious activities.

Precious stone relics, unique bronze were also taken up at a depth of nearly 2m. Two very beautiful small stone samples were also discovered with some other precious antiques but could not be published because they must comply with the Heritage Law.

Removing Vinh Hung's neck near Vinh Hung market of Vinh Loi district, Bac Lieu is the only ancient architectural monument with the appearance of the architecture of the Ang Ko period of Khmer people, also preserved in the Mekong Delta.

This ancient architectural work was discovered in 1911 with many other names such as Luc Hien tower, Bhah Dhat tower is the name of a monk and the name of the temple next to the tower when this relic was discovered. In the 20th century, archaeologists discovered the Sanskrit inscription in August 14 corresponding to 892 at Bhah Dhat temple next to Vinh Hung tower.

Vinh Hung Tower is built on a promontory, rectangular tower base, an edge of 5.6 m long; the other side is 6.9 m long, 8.9 m high built with bricks that fit together but does not see adhesive mortar. The tower has a fairly simple structure, has a rectangular space, thick walls, a high roof that arches into an arch with a main door. In the tower is a hand of bronze god statue, a lower body of the goddess statue, a blue stone goddess statue, a statue of Brahma goddess in bronze, a bronze statue of a Buddha . and other worship objects.

Every year, the local people organize a great anniversary at the tower on the 15th day of the first lunar month with thousands of Buddhists in and out of the province to worship.
