Many species of seafood in Nha Trang Bay are exhausted

According to research results of the Institute of Oceanography in Nha Trang, the immediate reserve of coral reef fish in Nha Trang Bay is estimated at 133 tons; in which, ornamental fish group accounts for over 69 tons, food fish group is about 60 tons . Some fish species have high economic value, have become the object of over-exploitation by fishermen, making them at risk of turning lost here.

Accordingly, on the sections in monitoring positions for research by Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography, the types of grouper (serranidae) , snapper (Lutjanidae) remain extremely rare, summer fish (lethrinidae) also found.

In the group of ornamental fish, many fish have beautiful colors and shapes such as butterfly fish, blue pomfret, lionfish . that are exploited much. Except in the core zone of Hon Mun Marine Protected Area, over-exploitation has led to small-sized fish groups (body length less than 10 cm) that dominate the quantity on most reefs and groups. Larger sizes maintain extremely low levels.

In addition, the snail, sea cucumber and lobster species exist at a rare level at the survey sites; The ear clams (Tridacna spp) and doctor shrimp (Stenopus hispidus) only have a small amount; Prison snails and (Charonia tritonis) which were used as souvenirs, were no longer found at all reefs studied and monitored during the past 10 years.

In addition, the density of black spiny bridges is also severely reduced on the reefs, as people exploit them as feed for lobster farming. This increases the growth of large seaweed species, which is responsible for the degradation of coral reefs.
