Mars has been 'attacked' more than 200 times in a year
It is estimated that each year the Red Planet suffers from more than 200 "attacks" from asteroids or comets in the universe. This is the research result of the US Aerospace Agency (NASA) published in the electronic newspaper "Icarus" on May 15.
NASA scientists said that for more than 10 years of studying photographs taken from the ship to spy on Mars orbit they found 248 traces of the surface of the Red Planet.
However, NASA also said that this figure is only an estimate based on studying a part of the Martian surface. The exact number of collisions can be more than 3 to 10 times.
Research shows that flying objects "clash" with Mars are mostly planets or comet fragments of small size, no more than 1-2m in diameter.
Flying objects of this size often cannot harm the Earth because they will be burned when passing through our planet's atmosphere.
However, because the Red Planet has a much thinner atmosphere, these "attackers" can easily reach the surface of Mars and cause collisions with at least 3.9m in diameter.
Ingrid Daubar, a scientist at Arizona State University (USA) and director of the study, said the findings help astronomers have the opportunity to track the occurrence of collisions in the universe. like studying crashes as soon as they are formed
