The excavation site was discovered two years ago, after a mid-20th century construction supermarket was demolished.
"Early archaeologists excavated many pieces of pottery and human remains , " said Pedro Francisco Sánchez Nava, coordinator of the Mexican Institute of Anthropology and History.
When digging deeper, they suddenly found the temple's circular ground about 10 meters in diameter and over a meter tall. Most of the temple's original white mortar was intact. In addition, the archaeological group also collected many offerings, including bird bones, volcanic glass, prickly cactus, monkey statues and ceramic platypus.
"This is said to be the place to worship the god Ehecatl-Quetzalcoatl . This discovery will provide information on how the Tlatelolco people , Mexico, worship one of their important gods," Sánchez said.
