Microsoft provides 3D online maps
In an effort to compete with rival Google, Microsoft on November 6 introduced 3D maps on the web of 15 US cities.
Microsoft Virtual Earth 3D combines photographs to create real 3D images of buildings and regions in 15 cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, Seattle and Dallas.
Microsoft said it will provide customers with the ability to advertise in new maps, particularly billboards that will display on buildings and corners in 3D maps.
According to Microsoft, its software is "superior" to Google Earth (also built on 3D mapping technology), because Virtual Earth 3D displays real images of buildings instead of box-shaped block.
