'Moon Village' is gradually forming?

The European Aeronautics Agency (ESA) plan for an international cooperative settlement on the Moon is gradually taking shape.

This seems to be a more realistic target than the plan to settle on Mars, if successful, the "Moon Village" will become a reserve for humanity.

Race to space

Last year, ESA announced plans to build a place on the Moon, called " Moon Village " (Moon Village). The village is a continuation of the International Space Station (ISS) which is expected to stop operating in 2024.

The Moon Village is part of the 4.0-generation space model of the Director General of ESA Johann-Dietrich Wörner, a new era in the universe when space exploration is no longer a government monopoly but is open to both private organizations.

Earlier this month, during the ESA Board meeting in Lucerne, Switzerland, Mr. Wörner said that the plan had taken place, "successful, tinged with a bit of disappointment."

The 4.0 Generation Space Project attracted the cooperation of many countries around the world, in addition to the 22 member states of ESA, there are also many countries outside the EU to support.

After a series of lively discussions (as well as exhaustion when negotiating finance), Mr. Wörner's proposal of "Generation 4.0 for a Unified Space in Europe" raised a capital of 10.3 billion. Euro (about 10, 77 billion USD).

"A bit of disappointment" from the Asteroid Impact Mission project (not translating the Asteroid Impact Mission ) did not call for financial support. This project belongs to ESA, studying solutions that deflect asteroids that can hit Earth.

"These are the most interesting features of ESA: bold, creative and ambitious, all at the same time," said Wörner.

ESA is not the only agency that directs eyes to the Moon. Foster + Partners, an architectural firm in the UK, has designed their own version of a place on the Moon with an interconnected green dome capable of sheltering people from radiation and debris. from space.

Google Lunar XPRIZE has also set up an army to dispute the Moon. India, Russia, Japan and China's aviation agencies are also in this race.

A backup place for all species

Some people argue that the funds and efforts for space exploration are a waste, especially we still have a lot of people starving on Earth.

Although that is true, scientists believe that if we don't build off-earth backup habitats, it is very likely that all humanity (and the entire planet) will be destroyed in sometime, whether it is due to an external impact like a comet, or an internal conflict like war.

A colony outside the Earth will play an important role for the survival of humanity, and is a place to prevent all species.
