Mulberry leaves can help treat diabetes

Mulberry leaf extract can replace diabetes medication by reducing more than 20% of total body sugar absorbed into the blood.

According to pharmacist Le Kim Phung, former lecturer of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, extract of mulberry leaves can replace diabetic drugs to regulate blood sugar. The active ingredient found in mulberry leaves is 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), which prevents the breakdown of carbohydrates into simple sugars, preventing the body from absorbing sugar and reducing blood sugar.

Research on mulberry extract was randomized, double-blind (compared with placebo) in healthy volunteers. The results showed that mulberry extract (250mg) reduced total glucose and insulin by 22% and 24% compared to placebo. Mulberry leaves reduce the total amount of sugar absorbed into the blood by more than 20%.

Mulberry extract does not cause side effects such as nausea and flatulence - side effects are common with many diabetes medications. Adding mulberry leaves to the eating process will help prevent diabetes from progressing.

"Users using mulberry leaf juice can lose weight, cure more thirst, frequent urination and tired people , " said pharmacist Phung.
