On January 28, 2007, Microsoft researcher Jim Gray went missing at sea despite being an experienced sailor. He had set sail on his boat and planned to go to the Farallon Islands.

Marie Empress was an English actress who went missing on an ocean liner in 1919, just before it was due to dock in New York. She was last seen by a flight attendant who brought her a glass of water and Marie Empress is presumed dead after being dropped from the train.

As she was primarily known for her 'vampire' roles on stage and in films, the press initially portrayed her disappearance as a public stunt. However, in 1921, authorities officially declared Marie Empress dead.

On March 22, 2011, a Disney Wonder crew member named Rebecca Coriam was reported missing on an excursion when she was not at work. Before she went missing, the ship's CCTV camera caught her having an emotional call on the ship's internal phone. That was the last time she was seen by her colleagues, and her whereabouts since that phone call remains a mystery.
