Americans in two cities of Los Angeles and Phoenix encounter a giant glowing cone of light appearing in the evening sky, believed to be an unidentified flying object or multicolored meteor.

According to IFL Science, the light trail appeared at 18:00 on November 7. From a small blue sphere at first, it gradually grew bigger and turned white. After two minutes, the trail of light spread and slowly disappeared.

A US Navy spokesman confirmed the light trail was the result of the Triden II missile shooting (D5) . This unarmed missile was fired from Kentucky, a ballistic missile submarine located off the coast of southern California, under the Pacific Test Range test facility.

The experiment was planned ahead, although after a few hours it was officially confirmed. This is a periodic missile operation and is rarely reported in advance to ensure the safety of US Navy systems.

"This test shot is part of a pre-scheduled system assessment. Each testing activity will provide valuable information about the systems, thereby contributing to ensuring the strength of the army. Team " , San Diego Times quoted Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Perry.

The US Navy often uses Pacific Test Range testing facility to check the standard rate of fire as well as missiles launched from submarines and warships. Due to no prior notice, witnesses of light trails in California and some neighboring states say this could be an unidentified flying object (UFO) or a meteor.

However, according to astronomer Phil Plait, the trail of light moving too slowly cannot be a meteor . Brian Keating, astrophysicist at the University of California, San Diego, also shared with Plait. "The Taurid meteor shower came from the east and this light trail came from the west. Meteor stars often appear in the middle of the night while the trail of light shines before sunset," Keating said.
