Mysterious signals from deep space are repeated in a 16-day cycle
According to a new study, a fast radio explosion (FRB) was discovered coming from a galaxy 500 million light-years from Earth and it keeps repeating every 16 days.
Known as FRB 180916.J0158 + 65 , this FRB emits radio waves over a period of four days, stops for a period of 12 days, then repeats. According to a previously published study, 28 original samples were first observed between September 2018 and October 2019.
The origin of fast radio blasts (FRBs) remains a mystery.
"We conclude that this is the first detection cycle of any of the FRB sources , " the researchers said.
Kenzie Nimmo, a PhD student at the University of Amsterdam, said: "The difference is between repetition and non-repetition. Therefore, fast radio explosions are unclear and we think that these events may not be associated with a particular type of galaxy or environment. '
It is unclear what causes the model to repeat, but the study's summary suggests that there is a periodic modulation mechanism or the explosion emission itself , either through external amplification or absorption and distortion models. complete sporadic processes.
The FRB has been traced to a galaxy called SDSS J015800.28 + 654253.0 and, although far from Earth, at 500 billion light-years, it is the closest FRB discovered to date.
It is not clear how popular FRBs are and why some of them are repetitive and others are not. Especially most of their origin is also mysterious in nature.
Some researchers have speculated that they came from an extraterrestrial civilization, but others, including the Extraterrestrial Intelligence Search Institute, or SETI, have said that the explanation is actually meaningless.
They come from all over space and organize the collaborative behavior of aliens when even one-way communication that takes billions of years seems impossible, SETI said.
First discovered in 2007, FRBs are relatively new to astronomers and their origins are mysterious. According to ScienceAlert, some of them can produce the energy equivalent to 500 million Suns in milliseconds.
