Mysterious radio signals from the universe

Scientists for the first time record mysterious radio signals from a strange source, about 5.5 billion light-years from Earth.

According to the report published this week, astronomers from Swinburne University of Technology, eastern Australia, recorded a wave of fast radio signals (FRB) on May 14 last year. Signals last for several milliseconds, but emit more energy by the day the sun shines, Daniel Malesani, cosmological physicist at the University of Copenhagen, said.

The location is about 5.5 billion light-years away from Earth. The origin of radio sources is still a mystery. Based on observed polarization factors, they identified an explosion that could form from the magnetic field. Under the assumption, FRB may be related to neutron stars or black holes.

"These outbreaks are often discovered about a few weeks or months, even more than 10 years after they occur. But we are the first to record one of them in real time , " Emily Petroff , the head of the research team said.

FRB is the emergence of radio waves from the universe , lasting only a few milliseconds. From 2007 until now, only 7 cases have been discovered, thanks to the old data of the Parkes radio telescope in eastern Australia and the Arecibo telescope in Puerto Rico. They are considered "one of the greatest mysteries in the universe".
