NASA astronaut has hidden it all to bring a piece of bread to the universe

About two hours before the launch of Gemini 3, NASA's first two-man train, astronaut John Young put his hand inside his cosmic cloak and pulled out something very normal but shouldn't have been there.

"Where is it?" Gus Grissom, captain, asks John Young. "I took it with me , " Young answered slowly. "How to taste the taste. Smell pretty up, right?"

What did John Young bring? It was the first salted sandwich and finally circled the Earth.

The piece of cake is a joke, but not many people after knowing this story think it's funny.

The 50-year-old salted meat bread is stored in plastic glue at the Virgil I. Gis Grissom museum in Mitchell, Indiana. This normal looking sandwich is a souvenir from the universe. In 1965, a young astronaut named John Young hid with an astronaut sandwich before the launch of Gemini 3, NASA's first two-man train.

Astronaut Wally Schirra, who is known for his sense of humor, brought a piece of cake from the famous Wolfie sandwich restaurant at Ramada Inn, Cocoa beach a few days ago. He gave John Young the morning Gemini was released.

NASA deployed Gemini to study how to launch people to the Moon. The task is to test the new Gemini. In the universe, the crew will use push-ups to change orbit or reduce altitude. Gemini 3 is NASA's first two-man train with many missions and one of them is testing food in the new universe. For example, according to Robert Z. Pearlman from Space.com, the experimental food is coated with a layer of gelatin to avoid crumbling.

The piece of smuggled bacon was bought from the store, of course, without gelatin coating. Anyway, Grimsson will have to put it away after the first bite because the crumbs will fly everywhere.

And they ate it .

"It's crumbling. I have to put it in my pocket now," Grimsson said after taking a bite. "The piece of cake . is not very good either," answered John Young, "It would be better if it didn't crumble." Grimsson quickly realized the problem. "I took a bite, but bread crumbs flew all over the ship," he told reporter LIFE after returning from space. The crumbling cake could seriously damage the electronic system, so the crew was reprimanded when returning.

Other crews from then on were prohibited from joking this way.

Small debris is a huge problem for spacecraft. In a zero gravity environment, they can get caught in the circuit board, the control device or the crew's eyes. In NASA's press release, it was revealed how they used gelatin to prevent this from happening.

Controversy between Congress and NASA

John's "bacon sandwich" experiment lasted about 10 seconds for a total of 4 hours and 52 minutes. The mission has successfully tested the ship's exhaust pipe, setting the first milestone for manned ships.

On Earth, the White House committee knew about the joke."Some MPs were upset that, by smuggling bread to space and eating, Gus and I ignored the food that needed to be tested and wasted millions of taxes," Young wrote in his memoir. NASA finally had to affirm to Congress that they would not let anyone smuggle anything into the universe anymore.

Young later flew in other missions: Gemini 10, Apollo 10, Apollo 16 and Space Shuttle. Salted meat bread has also returned to the universe, on the first space shuttle 1981 flight, with the captain being Young.
