The New York Times reported that Eko Core is a digital device that attaches to the stethoscope and allows recording, amplifying and wirelessly sending sound and video images to an iPhone application.

The founders said the device's software also meets federal security and privacy standards. The software can also be used to transmit heart rate and electrocardiograms into electronic medical records used in clinics and hospitals. The company plans to launch a similar application that can be used on Android operating systems in early 2016.
