New rifles can help American soldiers hit the enemy from 600m
The HK G28 rifle can hit target size from a distance of 600m, surpassing the standard US M4 model.
The US Army selected the Heckler & Koch G28 rifle model to pay for infantry platoon-level gunners to destroy the target at a distance. With this new model, the platoon-level gunner is able to penetrate the target of protective armor at a longer range than the current M4 short rifle, according to Popular Mechanics.

The move is intended to help American soldiers confront future armed armor opponents, as the US is shifting its strategy from fighting rebels in a narrow urban environment to a wider battlefield.
Shortly after the US began a military intervention campaign in Iraq, SEAL task force began deploying to the country with improved M14 EBR rifles. This is the modernized M14 variant with high accuracy, long-range propellers and viewfinder, which allows for greater distance radiation than the standard M4 model. The US Army was also quick to apply the gun in combat operations in the Middle East.
However, the M14 EBR is only a temporary solution because of the uncomfortable design for the gunner, the heavy barrel head, the backward operating mechanism makes the accuracy decline sharply. Therefore, the US Army wanted to own a new rifle type exclusively for platoon level gunners, replacing the M14 EBR. This is the reason for the US Army to choose G28 semi-automatic rifles designed by Heckler & Koch.
Basically, the G28 is the HK416 automatic rifle using a 7.62x51mm NATO bullet for sniper rifles. The gun was identified by the US Army as M110A1 with a 42 cm barrel, a 20-caliber junction box and 6.8 kg. It is fitted with Schmidt & Bender viewfinder with 20 times magnification and bipedal support.
The manufacturer Heckler & Koch claims that the gunner uses G28 enough to hit the target in a circle of 3.8cm in diameter at a distance of 100m or 23cm far away from 600m. This allowed the gunner to hit the opposing chest at a distance of 600-700m, beyond the effective range of most current infantry rifles. In addition, the G28 can play a role of suppressing firepower like machine guns at distances up to 800m.
The US Army plans to buy 5,000 G28 guns to equip platoon-level gunners, along with 3,643 guns for independent snipers. Each M110A1 costs about $ 12,000, with Schmidt & Bender viewfinder costing up to $ 4,000 / unit.
