New set of photos about the dwarf planet Makemake

Don't miss the opportunity to admire the precious images of Makemake dwarf planet.

Makemake dwarf planet is the third largest dwarf planet in the Solar System and is one of two Kuiper belt objects (KBO). Its diameter is about 2/3 of Pluto. Makemake has a satellite that has been discovered. The extremely low average temperature (about 30 K) means that its surface is covered by methane, ethane and possibly nitrogen ice.

Known as 2005 FY9 (and later given the name number 136472 and the common name for Makemake, named after a god on Easter Island), it was discovered on March 31, 2005 by a team The team was headed by Michael Brown , and published on July 29, 2005. On June 11, 2008, the International Astronomical Society put Makemake on the list of candidates for " Pluto-like " status. (plutoid), a term for dwarf planets outside Neptune 's orbit that resembles Pluto and Eris. Makemake is solemnly classified as " plutoid " in June 2008.
