New surprises about the Great Wall

China's Great Wall has long been considered the longest artificial structure in the world, but the length of this work has not been explored yet.

>>>The length of the Great Wall increases twice

A five-year archaeological survey by China's State Heritage Administration (SACH) shows the total length of the Great Wall is 13,170 miles, extending through 15 provinces.

This length is twice the previously announced figure. In 2009, SACH said the length of the citadel was 5,500 miles, extending through 10 provinces.

'Previous figures show that the Great Wall was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), but the new measurement technique shows that the citadel was built at all dynasties,' said Yan Jianmin, director of literature. The Chinese Great Wall Association room, said.

However, this report caused many doubts. According to the LA Times, Stephane Mot, a blogger working in Seoul, South Korea, said: "China wants to rewrite history because it wants to prove that history fits China's border today. " Chinese archaeologists publish this result to overshadow Korean culture.

Chinese archaeologists and map experts conducted fieldwork in 15 provinces and found 43,721 locations related to Changcheng, the report said.

'Because it has been going on for thousands of years, some underground structures have disappeared, and we don't know how those walls were before. When some local governments or companies exploit the land, such as digging a mine or building a new road, they destroy the rest of the earth, ' Jianmin told China Daily.

The survey began in 2007, as part of the Great Wall protection project.

The Great Wall was built more than 2,000 years ago to fight against invaders, but only 8% of the citadel still stands today.
