New technology makes computers 1000 times faster

Scientists from IBM have announced a new research result, using optical light pulses to speed data transfer between chips. As a result, the performance of today's supercomputers will increase to 1,000 times the current speed.

The new technology, called CMOS Integrated Silicon Nanophotonics , integrates optical and electronic modules on a single piece of silicon, allowing electronic signals to be converted into light pulses, CNet said . This will allow for faster communication between chips.

Will Green, light quantum science researcher at IBM, said the technology could lead to major advances in creating " terrible " power for today's supercomputers. The fastest supercomputers in the world currently only reach 2 petaflop (2 trillion calculations per second). But this new technology could push that number up to a million trillion calculations per second.

In addition, this technology can replace the widely used copper coils today for data transfer between chips. Because optical light can transmit data faster within a few centimeters to a few miles, it consumes less energy.

If IBM's announcement becomes a reality, IBM will make a breakthrough for laboratories around the world, because the speed of computer processing is raised, the scientific research work will be carried out. Show faster.
