New Zealand claims the island of clean mouse ball Antipodes

The island conservation project recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage site destroyed more than 200,000 mice that destroyed the ecosystem.

The New Zealand Herald on March 21 quoted New Zealand Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage as saying that the Antipodes island near Antarctica had no threat to the unique ecosystem.

The island protection effort was organized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage site from 2014 with the project "Million Dollar Dollars".

In the framework of the campaign, about 65 tons of bait were dropped into the island by helicopters in 2016. After that, 13 combat groups on the ground conducted a 75-day campaign to destroy the remaining mice.
According to Ms. Sage, the project destroyed more than 200,000 mice; The test team recently searched the island for a month and found no trace of them.

This rodent is an alien creature that disturbs life on the island, 2,100 hectares wide, because they hunt young birds, eggs, insects and seeds.

'This is a very important news for conservationists in New Zealand and around the world,' said Ms Sage.

According to the Ministry of Conservation, life on the island can now be developed as before. The island has more than 150 species of insects, of which 17% are endemic species in Antipodes, 21 species of sea birds, 4 species of endemic birds and 21 rare plant species.
