Nintendo sells more than 10 million handheld game systems
According to Nintendo Co.'s announcement. On January 3, more than 10 million Nintendo DS handheld games have been marketed recently, including 4 million North American systems and 5 million Japanese game consoles.
Nintendo's vice president of marketing, Perrin Kaplan, said the company sold about 3 million handheld games to North American consumers in 2005. This figure in 2004 was only 1.2 million game consoles.
Meanwhile, Nintendo's rival Sony Corp has sold 3.2 million PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld game systems in North America between March 2005 and December 2005.
Perrin Kaplan also said that about 550,000 people have used the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi connection system to play online games since the service was launched a few weeks ago. This option to play online games is completely free for those with an Internet connection.
