Noise can make men infertile

New research shows regular noise exposure, especially in the evening, increasing the risk of infertility in men.

Korean researchers found that men who slept at high noise levels were more likely to undergo reproduction than rest in a quiet area.

Dr James Nodler, Reproductive and Infertility Endocrinologist at Houston Methodist Hospital said: "The noise in the bedroom can be a chronic stressor in sleep that makes men infertile."

Infertile men are 14% taller if exposed to noise at night over 55 Db.

Scientists from Seoul National University analyzed data of more than 206,000 men from 20 to 59 years old. Noise exposure levels are calculated by combining a male residential location (using postal codes) and information from the national noise information system.

As a result, about 3,300 men were diagnosed with infertility. After adjusting for factors such as age, income, smoking and body mass index (BMI), the researchers found that infertile men were 14% taller if exposed to noise in the committee. night over 55 Db.

Similarly in women, noise levels are associated with an increased risk of premature birth, miscarriage and birth defects.

Nodler explained, the chronic noise in the bedroom could disrupt the release of the hormone GnRH (the hormone that releases gonadotropin) in the brain, triggering the release of other hormones important to fertility.

Best both sexes need to stay away from the noise when sleeping, Nodler recommends.

According to the US National Institutes of Health, about 15% of US and South African couples experience reproductive problems, the main reason being noise.
