Noise pollution, birds must sing at night

Instead of singing during the day, red-necked birds living in major cities in the UK had to sing at night. The reason why birds have to change their behavior during the day is due to noise and light pollution in urban areas.

Scientists from Sheffield University affirmed that there is a link between the noise level of daytime life and the number of birds singing at night. It is thought that the lights in the city " fool " these birds, making them think that the night is still daytime.

Researcher Richard Fuller of the University of Sheffield explains: 'You can almost hear the birds singing at night. This shows that some aspects of the city environment have a direct impact on this phenomenon. '

Light pollution is spreading, especially in big cities. Along with it is noise pollution. Where noise is 10 times higher than in other places, the more birds sing at night.

Mr. Richard Fuller further explained: 'Nightlife is an expression to avoid competition with noise. Over time, this bird will gradually lose its initial biological response. But we hope for a better thing because birds also have a lot of complex reactions to the environment. '

This is the initial result of a seven-year research program of the Department of Biology at the University of Sheffield to know exactly the impact of urbanization on the ecological environment.
