November 12, 1990 - Prince Akihito officially becomes the 125th Emperor of Japan.

Akihito was born on December 23, 1933 in Tokyo as the reigning Emperor, who is also the 125th Emperor according to the List of Traditional Emperors, having been crowned since 1989.
