Orchid tree has rotten foot odor
A special smelling flower that grows only in the US Yosemite National Park, and was first found in 1923, was declared a new orchid species. The botanist Alison Colwell said what makes the plant different is not the tiny yellow flowers, but the stench that the plants release to attract pollinators.
"I was looking at the clover for an afternoon and naturally smelled something. It was like a stall on a hot afternoon," Colwell is working at the US Geological Survey in El. Portal said.
The only orchid flower in California's Sierra Nevada range grows in areas ranging from 1.8 to 2.7 km. This new plant seems to have no commercial value because its flowers are very small, only about 6 mm, but orchid lovers have begun to travel long distances to enjoy flowers with an indescribable odor. this.
The new plant has the official scientific name Platanthera yosemitensis , and has become a member of the largest family of about 30,000 species across the globe.
There are 7 other rare plant species also found in Yosemite such as Yosemite onion, Yosemite sunflower, and clover Bolander.
