Overwhelmed by the array of planes, tanks and 'huge' weapons at the Vietnam Military History Museum
From November 1, 2024, the Vietnam Military History Museum will officially open to welcome and serve visitors and offer free admission until the end of December 2024.
The Vietnam Military History Museum is located on Thang Long Avenue, passing through Nam Tu Liem District. The project was built in 2019 and has now completed phase one.
From November 1, 2024, the Vietnam Military History Museum officially opened to welcome and serve visitors and offers free admission until the end of December 2024 at the address: Km 6+500 Thang Long Boulevard, Tay Mo Ward, Dai Mo, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi City.
The museum currently holds more than 150,000 artifacts, including 4 national treasures and many valuable artifacts.
In the middle of the square in front of the museum is the 45m high Victory Tower, symbolizing the country's independence in 1945. The square has two outdoor exhibition areas of about 20,000m2 , two fountains and a lake of 2,000m2 .
The newly built museum has a modern, multi-functional design. The museum's architecture is not only a work displaying war history, but also creates a common space for visitors to interact and experience the struggle for national independence of the heroic Vietnam People's Army.
On the left of the square is the display area of weapons and equipment of the Vietnam People's Army.
Typical of these are two transport and passenger planes; 85 mm cannon; 57 mm anti-aircraft cannon; PT-76 tank; MiG-17 fighter; Su-22 fighter bomber.
The main building of the museum is over 23,000m2 wide, applying many new display methods, combined with 3D mapping technology; information lookup screen equipment, photo media, automatic audioguide and QR code to look up information about artifacts, images and more than 60 video clips introducing campaigns, battles and historical figures, bringing visitors a completely new experience.
The exhibition space inside the museum on the first floor is divided into 6 themes. Theme 1: The early days of building and defending the country; Theme 2: Protecting independence from 939 to 1858; Theme 3: Fighting against French colonialism, gaining national independence from 1858 to 1945; Theme 4: Resistance against French colonialism, 1945 - 1954; Theme 5: Resistance against the US from 1954 to 1975; Theme 6: Building and defending the country from 1976 to the present day.
105mm artillery of the 806th Company of the 105mm Ground Artillery, serial number 14683, manufactured by the US as aid to France. Captured by Vietnamese troops in the battle of Nghia Lo fort, Northwest campaign in 1952. This was one of the artillery pieces that fired the first volley, pouring fire on the French in the battle of Him Lam stronghold on March 13, 1954, opening the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
The large space of the new museum not only displays artifacts but also introduces many valuable documentary images of important meetings that decided the victory of the Vietnamese revolution; the process of organizing and fighting of units, providing visitors with an overall and detailed view of the events.
The artifacts are arranged aesthetically while highlighting the main content of each section.
The Vietnam Military History Museum is currently open to museum experts and pre-registered visitors. The museum will open to the public from November 1, 2024.
