People use only 8% of DNA
British scientists found that humans use only one-tenth of our DNA and the rest of the DNA is only a remnant of evolution, like the appendix.
Previously, experts had estimated that up to 80% of our DNA performs some function or something useful for the body. Authentication is very important because it will help medical researchers focus on the DNA behind the diseases, helping to accelerate research to find new treatments.
The research team from Oxford University (UK) conducted a comparison of human DNA with the DNA of many other mammals and looked for fragments of genetic material that remained the same after millions of years of evolution. The constant is considered a sign that the piece of DNA is doing something important.
Experts discovered that people eventually use about 8.2% of DNA. The remaining 91.8% is "junk" DNA .
Dr. Gurton Lunter, the head of the study, emphasized: "Most of the DNA only exists there and does nothing. They just occupy it."
Mr. Lunter explained, "junk" DNA is basically non-coding DNA , that is, components that do not encode protein sequences in the organism's DNA. They are considered to be the remnants of evolution, very much like an appendix, not doing anything useful, but not harming us.
In addition, the team also found that the long-standing concept that DNA-filled genes are wrong. In fact, genes only make up more than 1% of 8% of useful genetic material. About 7% of the remaining useful DNA contains switches that control these genes.
