Phu Quoc: zoning to protect coral reefs and sea grass
According to the survey results of the Institute of Oceanography in Nha Trang, on the Phu Quoc archipelago, there are 9 species of seagrass with an area of over 7,200 ha, concentrated mainly in the waters of Ham Ninh (Phu Quoc, Kien Giang).
These vast sea grass fields are the main food of Dugong (also known as Dugong, Mermaid, Bowfish), the extremely rare and precious animal in the Red Book, which currently has only about 10 left. in the southwestern sea.
The survey also confirmed that coral reefs are mainly concentrated in the southern island of Phu Quoc, with an area of about 362 ha.
The Kien Giang provincial government agreed with scientists on the zoning and strict protection of the said area.
