In Indonesia there is the most exotic pig species in the world. They are thought to be strange, because the pig has a set of canines and two 'horns' that grow in the nose. They are also called pig deer , with the scientific name of Babyrousa babyrussa .

Deer pigs are native to Celebes and the surrounding islands of Indonesia. It is the only member in the genus Babyrousa. The habitat of deer pigs is thick bushes in tropical forests and reeds as well as on the banks of rivers and lakes.

They have little or no hair, brown and gray speckled skin, facilitating their camouflage. Deer pigs are known for their two pairs of fangs: both upper and lower fangs are large, curved and bent backwards and then bent backwards.

The pair of upper fangs of male deer is bent and so large that they are visible through the flesh, penetrating through the holes to cross the top of the muzzle. Two fangs on the bridge of the nose are also considered ivory. The deer is quite large. Adults weigh up to 250kg, even 300kg. Interestingly, this pig has three stomachs. So, they are also known as ruminants.

Female pigs have two shorter sets of fangs. After the pregnancy period is about 125 to 150 days, children usually give birth to 2 children. Pigs of deer eat quite well. They like leaves, roots, fruits and even animals. The strong jaws of deer pigs are easy to bite hard seeds.

Male deer like to live solitary, however, the deer pig likes it. In the wild, a herd of female deer pigs can reach nearly 100 heads.

Deer pigs are currently on the list of endangered species due to habitat loss and intense human hunting. They are currently protected by strict Indonesian standards. Hunting and killing deer pigs is illegal.
