Preparing drugs for cancer treatment and AIDS from herbs
Director of Santiago de Cuba Pharmaceutical Center, Alexander Batista, said doctors from the country will use drugs made from herbs with a local name 'anamú' in the treatment of cancer patients and HIV / AIDS.
Currently the above-mentioned pharmaceutical facility, based in Cuba's second largest city, has produced about 160,000 blisters of the leaves and preschools of the 'anamú' plant, whose scientific name is Petiveria alliacea L , grows wild in many places in Cuba. Experts say the drug will be given free to patients with a doctor's prescription.
Batista said during the pre-clinical trial, the drug made from this herb produced positive results, and announced that in the future the drug would be sold abroad.
'Anamu' is native to the Amazon jungle and is widely used in South American countries for the treatment of flatulence, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and bacterial infections. In addition, this plant also has diuretic, anti-arthritis and dementia.
Pharmacy is one of Cuba's key economic sectors with an export turnover of about 350 million USD / year. Currently 38 types of pharmaceutical products of this country are circulated in 40 countries around the world.
