Professor Dam Thanh Son taught at the University of Chicago

The theoretical physicist Dam Thanh Son has just been invited by the University of Chicago, where Professor Ngo Bao Chau's work, invited him to teach from the beginning of September.

As part of the ambitious plan to recruit the best theoretical physicists in the world, the University of Chicago appointed Dam Thanh Son as a " physics University Professor" (often considered higher than "professor"). ").

According to the University of Chicago, Dam Thanh Son's studies have demonstrated the relationship between seemingly unrelated physical problems such as nuclear physics and black holes. He is also interested in other issues such as particle physics and condensed matter physics.

'We are proud to announce that Professor Dam Thanh Son will join the University of Chicago faculty as a professor, including appointment in the Department of Physics as well as in two interdisciplinary research institutes. Our very active work is the Enrico Fermi Institute and James Frack Institute ' , said Robert Fefferman, Dean of the Department of Physical Sciences.

Professor Dam Thanh Son was born in 1968. He graduated from Moscow National University in 1991 and received his doctorate in physics at Moscow Nuclear Research Institute in 1995. He then worked at the Public Institute Technology Massachusetts, RIKEN Brookhaven National Research Center, Columbia University.

Before moving to Chicago, Dam Thanh Son was a professor at Washington University, and a senior member at the Institute of Nuclear Theory.

University Professor is the representative for the highest academic desire of the University of Chicago. They were chosen from outside organizations thanks to their internationally recognized talents and their wide range of influences.

In addition to the appointment of Mr. Son, the University of Chicago also opened the Center for Physical Investigation. This center was founded to become the focal point of theoretical physics activities, to support graduate students, students and visitors.

Principal Thomas F. Rosenbaum said the center will play the role of bringing teachers together under a joint umbrella organization, building a rich tradition of interdisciplinary science represented by James Franck Institutes and Enrico Fermi.

Mr. Son said this form of cooperation is one of the reasons I chose the University of Chicago.

'Chandrasekhar's famous journey from India to Europe inspired me when I was a child in Vietnam, and Fermi's lectures deeply influenced me as a student at Moscow, " said Son

"I have had 10 years of extremely interesting work at Washington University. And now, I am ready for new challenges."

'Mr. Son is one of the few leading theoretical physicists of his generation and one of the few elite of humanity , ' said Emil Martinec, a professor of physics and director of Enrico Fermi Institute. .

Earlier, in 2010, mathematics professor Ngo Bao Chau also moved to the University of Chicago to work.
