The youngest professor received the Ta Quang Buu award

Professor Nguyen Van Hieu, Hanoi University of Science and Technology is awarded an outstanding award for basic research in physics.

On the afternoon of April 18, the Ministry of Science and Technology will award the Ta Quang Buu Prize to three scientists. In which, two main prizes belong to Professor Nguyen Van Hieu , International Institute for Materials Science (Hanoi University of Technology) and Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Minh (Hanoi Natural University). The young award is given to Dr. Phung Van Dong , Institute of Physics (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology).

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu (44), the youngest professor in Vietnam in 2015, won the prize with the project "Designing and manufacturing nanostructured branch SnO 2 / ZnO to enhance the sensitivity of gas to alcohol". His research has produced a simple, easy-to-control secondary nano fabrication method, extending the applicability of traditional one-dimensional nanostructures, not only in the field of gas sensors but also in expand to other areas, such as nano electronic components, energy batteries.

The work is published in the journal Sensors and Actuators B - one of the most prestigious journals of narrow specialization is Instrumentation ( 2012 ) .

Project "Study on the release of potassium associated with the dissolution of phytolith in rice straw" by Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Minh (37 years old) was published in Chemosphere magazine in 2015. This is the scientific basis for measures to manage and make the most of the benefits from the abundant rice straw in Vietnam. The study also suggests the possibility of extracting potassium from rice straw for fertilizer production.

The "3-3-1-1 model of dark matter" works by young scientist Phung Van Dong (35 years old) makes a significant contribution to explaining the material and energy structure of the universe.

Prof. Dr. Dinh Dung, Chairman of the Awards Council gave three new points on the official page of the National Science and Technology Development Fund (Nafosted):

First , unlike the previous years, both major awards belonged to young scientists. This once again affirms that the opportunity to receive the prize is the same for the "old" scientists who have had a lot of research in science and young scientists.

Secondly , the scientific works that the main author is awarded are "imbued with Vietnamese identity". All three projects are funded and implemented within the framework of basic research projects carried out in the country. In particular, the scientific work of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu and Dr. Phung Van Dong are co-authors of Vietnamese colleagues and implemented in Vietnam, without foreign elements.

These two works have also been cited many times since publication. Specifically, the scientific work of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu was cited 69 times and by Phùng Văn Đồng was quoted 19 times (not counting self-quotes). This proves that the scientific works are highly concerned by international colleagues and have a great influence on the works and research fields.

Third , the scientific works of the two main awards are in the field of experimental science, with practical significance and great applicability.

Since 2014, the Ta Quang Buu award has been held annually by the Ministry of Science and Technology to honor scientists with outstanding achievements in basic research in the fields of natural sciences and engineering.

This is the first domestic award to honor scientists of world-class excellence. Award-winning scientists are recognized not only by the domestic scientific community but also by the world's scientific community for their outstanding contributions to science.

Each award-winning individual will receive a certificate from the Minister of Science and Technology, a bonus of VND 200 million (for prizes for scientific authors) and VND 50 million (for prizes) for young scientists who are the authors of scientific works).
