The vaccine targets lung, breast, prostate, colon or ovarian cancers, by encoding one of the most common proteins expressed in particular cancers.
The vaccine is seen as a form of immunotherapy, working by boosting the body's immune system and attacking cancer-causing proteins in the patient's body.
Dr. Toh Han Chong emphasized that, despite being in the initial phase of human trials, scientists have achieved very positive results. Subsequent tests will be conducted by scientists to review and soon make a final conclusion.
This is a joint research project between the National Cancer Center, the Clinical Research Institute as well as the biotechnology companies of Singapore and the United States MicroVAX, which has been conducted since September 2014.
Singapore was chosen as the location to test this new vaccine because it has the world's top medical centers.
