RAM of 10 GB for PC and 2 GB for mobile devices
The fact that the computer needs 1 GB of RAM to install the Windows Vista operating system shows the increasing demand for memory in the market. NEC's new technology allows production of 10 GB RAM without the need for a memory card slot.
Manufacturers have chosen one of two ways to develop memory chips: SiP (system-in-package) and SoC (system-on-chip). The SiP method aligns the chips vertically with the separator in the middle and interconnects them through the connecting wire. And SoC concatenates all memory disks in the same chip, but the limited area reduces the capacity of the product. Meanwhile, SiP is also limited in number of chips due to the complexity of wires .
The new solution of NEC, Elpida and Oki 3D has overcome the disadvantages of SiP to create compact memory, high speed operation and low power consumption for computers and mobile phones. gaming device .
The new product will contain 8 memory chips and 1 controller chip. Each chip integrates more than 1,000 connectors and is extremely thin, only about 50 micrometers (1 µm = 1 millionth of a meter). These chips are compressed and connected together by a technique called microbump.
"Super-compressed" memory allows mobile phones to have enough capacity to hold high-definition video and 3D graphics applications, and the ability to integrate RAM over 10 GB into the computer is no longer so far away.
Meanwhile, Samsung last week also introduced the OneDRAM flash chip, using Fusion 3D technology, which can expand up to 1 terabyte.
