Red Hat launches a new version of Linux for PC
Red Hat yesterday (May 9) officially launched a new Linux version exclusively for desktop PCs and laptops.
The target audience of the Red Hat Global Desktop version is government agencies and small businesses in developing markets. Intel will be Red Hat's partner in PC product design and distribution of new operating system versions.
The desktop Linux operating system has never been the focus of Red Hat's development strategy. The main market of this open source operating system is the server market because it is a market that is not under Microsoft Windows control.
By 2004 Red Hat decided to launch the first desktop PC version of Linux to launch a competition with Microsoft. Like the recently released Red Hat Enterprise Linux version, Red Hat Global Desktops has also simplified administrative and security issues.
Red Hat declined to disclose the detailed plan of launching Red Hat Global Linux version to market as well as the plan of product sales.
