Restoring Hue monument with traditional lime mortar technology
After more than 3 years of experimentation, the research team was led by architect Phung Phu, Director of Hue Monuments Conservation Center, who successfully restored Hue monument with traditional lime mortar technology.
Based on the study of a number of specimens in 15 typical monuments, the research team has found ways and materials to make traditional lime mortar, which is using lime, sand mixed with auxiliary substances. such as molasses, paper, glue of Boi Loi, buffalo skin glue . to form the binder of the building blocks.
This type of material not only has adhesion effect but also has very high waterproof ability.
The Department of Science and Technology of Thua Thien-Hue province has accepted and allowed to apply traditional lime mortar materials to the construction and restoration of the works of Hue Monuments.
