Reveal the 25 latest secrets about Mona Lisa

The images are part of the Mona Lisa Secrets Revealed exhibition, the latest of the latest research by French engineer Pascal Cotte, and are currently on display at the Metreon Center, San Francisco, USA.

New photographs have revealed 25 unknown things about the Mona Lisa, including evidence that Leonardo da Vinci has painted her eyebrows, resolving a long-standing argument that the beauty has no eyebrows.

The images are part of the Mona Lisa Secrets Revealed exhibition, the latest of the latest research by French engineer Pascal Cotte, and are currently on display at the Metreon Center, San Francisco, USA.

Cotte, the founder of Lumiere Institute of Technology, scanned the picture with a 240-megapixel Multi-spectral camera he designed, using 13 waves of ultraviolet rays to infrared. The photographs were peeled off the color paint and the transformation of centuries, revealing the light of the process of painting to bring beautiful people into paintings.

" The Mona Lisa's face becomes a bit bigger and the smile is different, the eyes are different ," Cotte said. " The smile looks more prominent ."

A close-up picture of Mona's Lisa's left eye reveals a brush stroke on her eyebrow. " I'm an engineer and a scientist, so for me everything has to be logical. And it's completely illogical when Mona Lisa doesn't have eyebrows or eyelashes ," Cotte said. " I found an eyebrow ".

Another conundrum is the position of the right arm, which lies beneath her belly. This is the first time an artist has put the model's arms and wrists in such a position. Although other artists didn't understand da Vinci's intentions, they still imitated.

Cotte found that the paint just below the right wrist perfectly matched the color of the fabric covering her knees. So this means absolutely: her arms and wrists support a blanket.

"The neck of the right arm is right above the abdomen. But if you look carefully in the infrared light, you will understand that she supported a blanket covered with her wrist, " Cotte said.

Infrared photos also reveal the artist's opening lines that lie beneath the colored paint layers, suggesting that this Renaissance man is also a human being. " If you look at the left hand will see the first position of a finger, but then he changed to another position, " Cotte said. " Even Leonardo da Vinci was hesitant to draw ."

Other disclosures include :

  • Lace strips on Mona Lisa's skirt
  • The transparency of the veil shows that the first painter painted a landscape, then used transparent drawing techniques to cover the veil on it.
  • The change in the position of the left and middle fingers of the left hand.
  • The elbow was repaired due to a stone thrown in, in 1956.
  • The blanket covering Mona Lisa's knees also covers the stomach.
  • The left finger has not been completed yet.
  • An accidental stain on the corner of the eye and chin, contrary to the view that Mona Lisa was ill.
  • The Mona Lisa is painted on an unpolished poplar board, as opposed to conjectures.

In the larger picture, Cotte said he stood back and looked at Mona Lisa's enlarged infrared image, then her beauty and mystery stood out clearly.

" If you stand in front of a huge image of Mona Lisa, you will immediately understand why she is so famous. That's what you have to see with your own eyes ," Cotte said.
