Rattlesnakes can shake their tails to make sounds up to 50 times per second.

The investigation of rattlesnakes began at the zoo, where amateur scientists and son scientists compared the tail pattern to the intact tail of a rattlesnake still alive. Returning to their home in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, they began to reveal some of the discoveries of this reptile, such as the fact that a rattlesnake could shake its tail to make sounds up to 50. times / second for many hours continuously.

The father then proceeded to operate a rattlesnake tail, by using a sharp knife to open vertically the tail "buttons" . He and his son were surprised to find out, the inside of the tail was empty.

Thus, the sound emitted from the rattlesnake when shaking is caused by two layers of hard, hollow keratin at the end of the tail. A snake's tail will add a new layer every time the animal peels off, so this is not a base to know the exact age of a rattlesnake as a popular trick.

There are more than 20 different rattles, found in North and South America.
