Russia develops technology that produces environmentally friendly metallic colors

Russian chemists have successfully developed new methods of processing ferrous and non-ferrous metals such as copper, nickel and molybdenum with lower production costs, while improving the environment around metallurgical plants.

Professor Alexander Medvedev, Department of Nonferrous Metals and Gold, said in a statement dated May 19 that the new production technology has four outstanding advantages. Low costs (due to lower energy consumption), higher metal rates, less environmental impact (due to reduced sulfur dioxide emissions), and higher trade.

Most of the widely used methods of metallurgical coloring today are energy-intensive and environmentally harmful due to sulfur dioxide emissions from sulfur-containing ores. Meanwhile, new methods of enriching ores that Russian chemists have discovered have added some auxiliary materials such as salt, water and acid.

These are the proven ingredients that contribute to reducing energy consumption and emissions - which are the advantages of this method.

This new metallurgical technology is being tested during nickel and copper ore refining in Russia, Myanmar and Mongolia, and has been introduced for production in some locations.
