Mexico invents bioplastic from environmentally friendly avocado seeds

A student in Monterrey State, Mexico, has successfully produced a flexible plastic from avocado, environmentally friendly.

According to a reporter in Mexico, the Mexican Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) said the bioplastic, invented by Scott Munguia, is made from plant materials so the process of decomposition is very fast compared to conventional plastic. made from hydrocarbon.

In addition, this type of plastic also helps to save production costs by taking advantage of avocado seeds that people often leave. Some of today's bioplastics are made from corn - one of the main human cereals.

Mr. Munguia said that this new plastic does not affect the environment because the decomposition time after use is 240 days, or may be longer depending on the amount of bacteria in the environment. Meanwhile, ordinary plastic takes up to half a century to decompose itself.

The environmental impact of plastic use is one of the growing challenges for science. According to the latest figures from the European Plastics Association (Plastics Europe), by the end of 2013, plastic production worldwide reached 229 million tons.

In Mexico, it is expected that by 2020, the country's plastic industry will grow by 15% per year, meaning that the country's plastic output increases by nearly 11 million tons per year.

Mexico is the leading avocado producer and exporter in the world, with production accounting for more than 30% of the total avocado production worldwide.
