Alexandera project member Loshkareva said these images help viewers to know whether placing a trawl net has been properly implemented, thereby informing the authorities of misconduct.
Setting the net is the most popular salmon fishing method. People attach a net to the shore, the other end to the sea. When the salmon swim once in the river, the eggs will fall into this trap.
This is an officially accepted method of capture, but monitoring from space shows many large-scale violations, with 50% of the net being longer and placed closer to rivers than specified. This helps fishing companies achieve higher yields, earning more profits; but many salmon have no chance of laying eggs, leading to an increasing number.
The authors also said that after announcing the monitoring results from the universe, the number of violations of salmon fishing regulations has decreased by 13%. They expect that the monitoring of salmon fishing will achieve better results if they attract the participation of all those who want to protect salmon.
Russia's Far East focuses the world's largest number of wild salmon. Currently, this number of individuals is decreasing rapidly due to illegal fishing, narrow living environment and due to violations of fishing rules.
The main place for catching Pacific Salmon in Russia is Sakhalin, the island is famous for its unique flora and fauna, especially where many salmon species such as humpback salmon, dog salmon are gathered. Silver salmon, Chinook salmon, Masu salmon.
