According to the local people, they did not hear any sound from the explosion but only saw the halo emitted when meteorites ignited due to friction with Earth's gas layer.

Earlier, on February 15, a massive explosion of meteorites in the lower atmosphere in the Russian Ural sky caused windows to crash and some injured.

The Russian Emergency Situation Ministry says meteorite fragments have fallen in some sparsely populated areas in Chelyabinsk.

The buildings in central Chelyabinsk were evacuated shortly after.
